Suffolk Skills Show – Year 9
All of our Year 9 students attend the Suffolk Skills Show in Ipswich in October to gain an insight into what the world of work is about. They can speak to employers and training providers to gain information about what they need to do to get the job they want. This coincides timely with our GCSE options process.
Mock Interviews – Year 10
Our Year 10 students are given advice and information on how to write a covering letter and put together a CV together with interview training during their PSHE lessons. We work with a number of employers who conduct mock interviews with them in March. The employers are supplied with a list of students to interview (usually 10 each) along with feedback forms which are given to the students following their interview.
Work Experience – Year 10
Each student completes a two-week work experience placement in Year 10. The programme is personalised to what the student wants to do when they leave school (where possible) and is a valuable part of our curriculum. A risk assessment is carried out by a partner company and an agreement form is signed by the employer, student and parent/carer. The student is visited during their placement by a member of staff and feedback is received from the employer. The students complete a work experience diary to record their achievements.
We hold a STEM Fair in school and work with a number of local STEM employers to encourage our amazing students to consider Science, Technology, Maths and Engineering career opportunities. All students are invited to attend the fair on the day to interact with employers and to ask them what it is like to do their job.
