Food Preparation and Nutrition

 

Students starting Year 10 from September 2016 onward will be studying a new course – Food Preparation and Nutrition, this replaces Hospitality and Catering currently being studied by Year 11 students. Hospitality and Catering grades are awarded based on the successful completion of 2 or 3 Controlled Assessment tasks making up 60% of the final award; the tasks will consist producing a portfolio of work to show research, planning and evaluation for a practical exam or holding an event. The final 40% will be made up by either 1 or 2 written theory exams.

 

What will I learn in Food Preperation and Nutrition?

 

The WJEC Eduqas GCSE in Food Preparation and Nutrition equips learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to cook and apply the principles of food science, nutrition and healthy eating. It encourages learners to cook, enables them to make informed decisions about food and nutrition and allows them to acquire knowledge in order to be able to feed themselves and others affordably and nutritiously, now and later in life.
